Wrong number still showing in messages/texts/SMS after a port?

Sometimes after a number is ported in to us, your messaging (texting) can continue to show the number we issued you with rather than the number ported in to us.

iPhone / iOS

The culprit for this would be iMessage. iMessage doesn't update to the new number and needs to be done manually.

Can you try the following;

  1. Try turning off iMessage (Settings > Messages)
  2. then restart your phone (by pressing and holding the on/off button)
  3. tap Settings > Phone > My Number and confirm that it is correct.
  4. If it is not correct, please enter the correct number)
  5. then turn iMessage back to On (Settings > Messages)
  6. go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and see if the correct number is displayed
  7. under “Start new conversations from:"

Android

On Android phone the OS will attempt to synchronise your text messages Google messaging (this feature allows you to also view and send Google messages on a PC or tablet (https://messages.google.com/web/authentication)).

To reset the synchronisation:

  1. Open Messages
  2. Tap More options > Settings > Chat features
  3. Turn Enable chat features OFF
  4. wait 15 minutes
  5. restart the phone (turn your phone off and on)
  6. turn chat features ON again
